deprecatio hypocritam suscitabitur puer

have you ever wonder if death speaks
long whispers in the morning light
her breath the dripping dew

what if ghosts are not shadows
and angels are not bright
loss not love
what if he was to tell you more than you wanted to hear

why does the heat rise and the darkness sinks
black ribbons slip so easily away
beneath the calm of water
night waves nibbling at the moon

what if she rolled over
double bagged
alone

does she wait
across stale wooden boards
white paint & a window fan
did she watch them carry her body away

I would want to believe in the more
if I could
kneel beside the stones
listen to the illusion of heaven in man's' head

I could fall in line
follow lost
sit in buildings full of empty
but death would know I was lying
and we don't lie to death
