This is the part of farming people forget to think about; the job of the watcher. BC is the Keeper of the flock and when they are threatened, the responsibility to take action falls on BC's shoulders.
And even if you want to deny it based on some moral high ground that floats above the reality of life & death, his job is necessary. The year he was in Moab when that task was given to me the end result was we lost 3/4 of the flock to predators.
BC is their watchman. The flock is in good hands.
