the beauty of these days

By 11:20 am we have done 2 chapters of math, studied 3 passages of Shakespeare, read a half hour, and reviewed our science lesson. 11:20.  I say, let's meet at 12:30 for lunch.  Then ask if she will consider walking to the library with me to return books before gym. She counters with, I'd bike there...
She trolls off outside into the midday sunlight. The dog behind her, a ukulele in her hand.  Off to music class like any other 14 year old girl. A cell phone in her pocket a book bag over her shoulder. Except no one is sending her to this lesson. The halls of her school have no boundaries.  Her music room no ceiling. The beauty of these days are they are hers.
She teaches herself music.  She has picked up her 3rd paying photography shoot.  She has started connecting her level 9 bar routine.  I heard another teammate will be leaving school for home education next year.  It sounds like a lovely idea.

We know what we are, but know not what we may be.
~ William Shakespeare
